3-1 Discussion: Creative Works and Critical Thinking
Creative works generally have a theme or are focused on a particular topic. Often the goal of the artist or creator is to get the audience/viewer to think about the topic being addressed in the creative work in a new way or with a broadened perspective. In this assignment, you will have a chance to analyze the theme of a creative work and explore how it enhances critical thinking.
As you write, remember that AI tools can be useful for brainstorming, but they cannot replace your personal insight and perspective. The most meaningful contributions in this discussion will come from your own interpretation and lived experience.
Create one initial post and respond to at least two of your classmates.
Discussing creative works while using critical thinking often means investigating opinions and ideas different from your own. Remember to remain thoughtful and respectful toward your peers and instructor in your initial post as well as in your response discussion posts.
For your initial post, address the following:
- Describe one of the creative works that you have chosen on a particular topic. This work can be one of the creative works that you selected for your project proposal or a different work.
- Be certain to cite the work according to APA citation guidelines.
- Describe the themes or topics that the creative work addresses.
- What are the main themes or topics?
- How does the work communicate these themes or topics?
- What personal reaction did you have to the messages of work? Did it challenge you, surprise you, or confirm something you already believed?
For your response posts, address the following:
- In what other ways are the themes or topics that your peers shared communicated in the work?
- What additional themes or topics do you see communicated in the work? How?
- What parts of your peers’ personal connections to their creative works and topics resonated with you? Why?
- How did your peers’ posts challenge how you think about the topics they explore?
