Entertainment examines the role of media in shaping how people spend their leisure time, connect with others, and understand the world around them. The chapter explores different forms of entertainment media, including television, movies, music, video games, streaming platforms, and online content, while considering why certain types of entertainment attract particular audiences.
Students examine how entertainment content is created, marketed, distributed, and influenced by audience preferences and media industries.
The chapter also encourages students to think critically about the messages and values presented through entertainment, including how characters, lifestyles, relationships, and social issues are represented.
By examining their own entertainment choices, students can better understand how media can provide enjoyment and relaxation while also influencing attitudes, behaviors, expectations, and perceptions of society.
